Old Viking Tea - 15 bags

A bold voyage of flavor and fire. Old Viking Tea is a powerful, aromatic blend designed for those who seek both comfort and strength. By infusing the classic, sophisticated depth of Earl Grey with the honeyed notes of Meadowsweet and the intense, spicy character of Angelica seed, we’ve crafted a brew that evokes the spirit of a longship’s journey—bold, adventurous, and deeply rewarding.

The Wild (Icelandic Ingredients):

  • Meadowsweet (Mjaðurt): Known as the "Queen of the Meadow," this herb was a sacred plant in the Viking Age, often used to flavor mead. It brings a delicate, almond-like sweetness and a floral softness to the cup.

  • Angelica Seed (Hvannarfræ): The most potent part of the Angelica plant. These seeds carry a concentrated, peppery warmth and a complex botanical aroma that has been prized in the North for over a thousand years.

The Blend:

  • Base: Premium Earl Grey provides a sturdy foundation of black tea infused with the bright, citrusy punch of bergamot oil.

  • Sweetness: Meadowsweet acts as a natural balancer, softening the tannins of the black tea with its subtle honeyed notes.

  • The Spark: Angelica Seed adds a unique, spicy kick that lingers on the palate, providing a "wild" edge to the traditional tea experience.

  • Flavor Profile: A sophisticated collision of worlds. The bright citrus of bergamot meets the meadow-fresh sweetness of the Icelandic summer, all finished with a warm, spicy resonance from the heart of the Angelica plant.

Why These Ingredients?

In our Old Viking Tea, we combine global trade history with the ancient flora of the North:

  • The Explorer’s Spirit: Earl Grey represents the seafaring history of tea, while Angelica seeds were so valuable to the Vikings they were used as currency and protected by law in the earliest Icelandic legal codes (Grágás).

  • Natural Comfort: Meadowsweet contains natural compounds (salicin) traditionally used to soothe the body and clear the mind after a long day of toil.

  • Digestive Strength: Angelica seeds are celebrated in Nordic folk medicine for their warming effect on the stomach and their ability to ignite the body’s inner fire.

Brewing Suggestion: Use 1–2 teaspoons per cup. Steep in 90°C water for 2–4 minutes. The black tea base provides the caffeine to wake the spirit, while the wild seeds and flowers release their aromatic oils best in near-boiling water. Excellent with a dash of local honey to channel your inner Norseman.
